How we research, write, check and update our content.

Adult Counselling exists to help adults understand counselling and therapy, find the right support and know what to expect. This policy explains how we create, check and update what you read.

Who creates our content

Articles are produced by the Adult Counselling editorial team. Every article is reviewed and edited by a human editor before it is published, and the editor is accountable for its accuracy. An update date does not indicate expert review. We are building a panel of accredited counsellors and psychotherapists to review our guides; reviewers’ names and registrations will appear on the articles they review. When a qualified expert reviews an article, their name, credentials and the review date appear at the top of the article and on their profile page.

How we research

  • We start from primary and authoritative sources: the NHS, NICE guidance, the professional bodies that register counsellors and psychotherapists (such as BACP, UKCP and NCPS) and the Professional Standards Authority.
  • We list key sources at the end of each guide so you can check them yourself.
  • We explain uncertainty honestly and do not overstate evidence.

Use of AI tools

We use AI tools to help with research, outlining and drafting, and to create some illustrations. AI never publishes on its own: a human editor checks the facts, rewrites for clarity and takes responsibility for every article. AI-generated drafts can contain mistakes; use the correction contact below to report a problem. AI-generated images are illustrations, never evidence of real events.

Independence

Advertisers and partners have no say over what we cover or what we conclude. We do not accept payment for positive coverage. Sponsored content, if we ever publish it, will be clearly labelled.

Updates and corrections

We review guides regularly and whenever the facts change, and we show the date of the latest update. If you spot an error, email hello@adultcounselling.com. We investigate every report, fix confirmed errors promptly and note significant corrections on the article.
